Hi, I'm going to make a 2 meter ground plane like the one described in
the 21st edition of the ARRL Antenna book, page 18-24. My thoughts were to put this up on about 20 feet of PVC pipes against the side of the house. I was wondering how would I attach the SO-239 to the PVC after I have soldered the radials to the holes of the SO-239. I'm sure I can come up with something but I wanted to hear how other people have done this before. Also, maybe PVC pipe isn't best choice for this type of antenna. I just want to get it up high enough to make the repeaters in my area. maybe I can just hang it from a tree like a bird feeder? ;-) Thanks, Jim |

Jim,
One way would be to just set the base of the antenna on top of the pipe and feed the feed line down the pipe. Notch an appropriately sized cap for that pipe for the radials and vertical element. Set cap on/over the antenna. Fix the cap to the pipe how ever you want to, glue? I agree about the unstableness of the PVC pipe., it do bend and sway if it's very long. So, use a shorter section on top of something else? Clamp to a vent pipe on top of the house? Have fun... - 'Doc |

This link just turned up in one of my searches. Oddly enough my google
search criteria was "2 meter ground plane coil". http://www.hamuniverse.com/2metergp.html Jim |

Unless you use a larger size - like 1-1/2" or 2-inch. But hanging it from a tree like a bird feeder will work. |
