Default Antennas or urine stream contests?

This newsgroup is the source of some of the best and knowledgeable answers I
have found on the net.

Unfortunately, it now seems to suffer the same malignant plague as many
others--disagreements decaying into personal insults.

There have been disagreements over radio/antenna theory for over a century,
but look at what progress has been made in spite of the differing opinions!
If we base all of our current knowledge on what is written in a book, then
we are at a stalemate and RF progress is doomed. Remember that the Earth
was flat for millenia! Yes, let's disagree--it's healthy as long as it is
done with respect.

So what path do you do you all REALLY want to follow? Loops, Yagis and
feedlines or Heraldo, Maury and Jerry Springer? (Rhetorical question)

73 to all.

sigh... All too true.

I find my filters are now killing 70-90% of all new postings and
followups.

I fear some - if not many - of the folks that were "... the source of
some of the best and knowledgeable answers ..." may have abandoned this ng.

Notice how fast this thread degenerates into name-calling and
cute-only-in-the-posters-own-mind one-liner insults....

I think the noise level in the group will diminish in the group as the
Sunspot activity increases...

The trouble with having a "heckler" out there responding with megga-sarcasm
and ridicule is that one feels duty bound to respond. DONT. Let stupic and
non-constructive postings go unanswered, otherwise the escalate.

Just sounds like the usual bunch of guys BSing to me.

I will never forget the time I had a boss who tried to enforce civilness.

Do you mean "civility?"

Why would that be so hard to do anyhow? Employees who are not civil to
other employees "go someplace else" eventually.

Not a matter of enforcement, just a matter of slowly adjusting the
workplace. A few well placed letters in the offending employee's HR
file, and yer covered.

So that is how everyone eventually gets replaced and all the positions
end up filled by idiots? Darn, I missed that one 'till now.

Where is that manager? I want to lodge a complaint; All these
employees have gotten together and are running the place! Let's get
someone in here who knows something! ROFLOL

In this modern world, too many people mistake good manners for weakness.
I've had to demonstrate the fallacy of that on occasion.

A person without good manners isn't equipped with all the tools needed
to be highly successful. Those without manners can become successful,
but it is in spite of those poor manners, not because of it.

Look, let me be honest here, when I walk into a place and
want/need/request something--I simply want it; if I find a nice person
able to fulfill that want/request--it is icing on the cake. But, just
give me my request!

What I keep running into in life are places where the employees are all
arranging the situation to "please" themselves (that usually means they
"get rid" of qualified individuals who are a "threat" to their job
position) with a great work environment and service sucks (indeed, I am
now ending up with "pleasant" a-holes in India/china/Malaysia on help
lines! This REALLY peeves me!)--it is a job, yanno? That is why they
call it "work!"

Now if both can be accomplished, great service AND a wonderful and
nurturing environment for "them"--GREAT! I can't be fooled--I KNOW THE
DIFFERENCE! :-D

JS
