I live is an area that really does not mind antennas however my home and property are limited. I have about 70 by 130 feet an da coulpe small trees about 25 feet high. I think my best bet is a vertical. That depends on what bands you want to work, time of day you operate and whether you're after DX or closer-in stuff (such as closer than 1500-1000 miles). Well-installed verticals are fine for DX but if you want to ragchew on 80 or 40 they're not the best choice. Also be aware that most manufactured verticals are severely restricted in "SWR bandwidth" on 80 and to a lesser extent 40 meters. I also think i woud like one that states no radials required such as the Diamond 80 to 6 meter CP6 vertical or somethin gsimilar.. Any suggestions.. what am I missing ? verytical or diploe type or somethign else.. Thanks for any suggestions With a 70 x 130 foot lot you have room for a full-size 80 meter dipole if the trees and house are in the right spots. 40 meters can be handled by a second dipole in parallel at the feedpoint, or with easily-made traps. If your house is in the middle of the property and there are trees at the edges or ends, consider putting some TV mast on your roof, vent pipe or chimney, and supporting the center of the dipole. The trees support the ends. If your house is 2 stories and you use 15 feet of TV mast the center will be at least 35-40 feet up and the ends 20 feet or so. 73 de Jim, N2EY |
