... Same reason prices are different at different places on almost everything. WHATEVER THE MARKET WILL BEAR! Why is plain salt $1.69 at Kroger and .98 at WalMart? Why is soda at retail pricing normally 21 cents for 12 ounces at a store or $2.24 per gallon retail if you look at it that way. But at a restaurant (who buys it wholesale also, just as the store does) why do they sell it for over $17.00 per gallon? Any price over 99 cents, which represents 1000% markup is extortion on soda products! My experience with the IC-2100H: Had to replace a failing (25 year old) packet link radio. Checked eBay, they were selling for $150 - $180 "New In Box". Checked HRO, AES, etc. on the web. Prices were $149 - $169 plus shipping. Drove to Portland HRO, asked about price. Store owner checked computer, looked at the big pile of 2100Hs on the shelf, picked up a box, put it on the counter and said "How about $135?". Of course I bought some other stuff as well ;-) -- ... I prefer to go away, for example to CHQ... Hi Thierry, Manufacturer builds and sells (on average) to distributor (CHQ, durhamradio, or Joe's Tap Dancing Academy) for $300. Manufacturer who also advertises, offers MSRP (Manufacturer's "suggested" retail price) or $599. This is only a "suggestion" but it establishes the "market price." Distributor #1 can sell for this price (customer pays the price because that is what is advertised). Distributor #2 can sell for more (customer tries to go to Manufacturer instead but is told to buy through Distributor). Distributor #3 can sell for less (customer abandons Distributors #1 and #2 like you). Everyone sells antennas and is happy. Soon Distributor #2 sells less than others and goes out of business unless he has no bid contract to sell antennas for Halliburton. Distributor #2 pays kick-back to Halliburton. Halliburton charges the Taxpayer more money for "handling fees" and is twice as happy. Congress over-appropriates funds for black project that Halliburton is managing (for a fee) without oversight; and the price of the antenna (on average) rises to $1200. $120 (10%) finds its way back into the pockets of Republicans and they are happy. Instead of spending it to generate local jobs, they put their money into off-shore investments that are tax sheltered companies holding government contracts, and the cycle starts all over again (happier yet). Explanation: Capitalism (or the zero job growth economic boom). 73's Richard Clark, KB7QHC |

![]() Why are you picking on Haliburton? You think they are the only ones doing this? Don't you remember the $600 toilet seats and $75 hammers from decades ago? .... grin Ed |
