Newsgroup line trimmed.
Followups set to rec.radio.amateur.antenna "Dr. Anton Squeegee" wrote in message ... In article , radio says... i think to cross post that to all ham ng's should be considered as spam. One mail at one newsgroup (is that spam?). Some people see new adresses of other newsgroups! (hey is that an idea for people whoe does not know?). The 'Rules of the Road' for Usenet hold that a post is not spam if it has a BI (Breidbart Index) of less than 20. The BI is calculated by taking the square root of the total number of groups an article is posted to. Full details on this measure may be found here. http://www.stopspam.org/usenet/mmf/breidbart.html From what I can see, Cor posted an identical message to six groups. The square root of six is about 2.45, so his message cannot be considered spam under Usenet guidelines. Said guidelines are here. http://www.faqs.org/faqs/usenet/posting-rules/part1/ If his posts bother you, well... most Usenet newsreaders do have a filter or 'killfile' function. ;-) Pity you didn't read the whole article and spot the 45 day window Doc Our friend has a current "probable" BI of 12.63 over a 9 day window at the DSRS net abuse lookup archive. I have *not* checked for any nym shifts and this present post has not yet reached the archive de G6XCD -- keeping usenet clean since April 2nd 1998 |

I have *not* checked for any nym shifts and this present post has not yet reached the archive de G6XCD Hello G6XCD, Can you explain those technical comments? What do you mean with BI of 12,63................................???? 73's Cor As Doc Squeegee has already explained, your posts are counted by a mathmatical rule called the Briedbart Index. The Briedbart Index allows you 20 points in any consecutive 45 days. According to the DSRS archive which is the master archive used by all abuse departments, you "may" have already scored 12.63 points in the last 9 days. You appear to have no record before that date, so I assume *without any evidence pro or con* that you have changed your username or some other detail in your headers. Once your score reaches 20, then anybody with cancel rights is free to cancel your posts as spam and you may also be at risk of being added to the spam filter spools such as NoCeM, CancelMoose and Spam Hippo or your account with Chello.com may be closed, or both. It doesn't matter if your site is free or commercial. What matters is the way you post to usenet to advertise your website and the content of the message body. People may have already lodged complaints against you for excessive crossposting. This is their right and I believe in this instance they have valid reason. Crossposting fills other groups with unwanted replies and starts flame wars long after your advert has been removed. Your reply to Doc Squeegee has gone to 6 newsgroups. I trimmed to newsgroup line in my reply to cover only those groups which I regularly watch, and set a followup so that your reply would only come to this one group to reduce the risk of arguments starting. As per the convention, I posted a note in the first line of my reply as a top post. For a copy of the rules in Dutch, Google "Rosalind Hengeveld". I'm pretty sure she put the rules on her website at xess4all.nl de G6XCD |
