/////////////////////////////////////////// Amphenol grounding assembly Posted: 02 Oct 2017 07:40 PM PDT https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thr...sembly.583310/ I have had this "forever" but just got around to looking at it closely. The item is an assembly designed to get the shield of a coaxial cable grounded. There is "spark gap" assembly visible in the female end. The only name, on the device, is Amphenol and that is on the male end of the assembly (PL-259 end). I have looked at the present Amphenol catalogs and cannot find such. However, since I have had this for many years, the product may have been discontinued.... Posted: 02 Oct 2017 05:45 PM PDT https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thr...l-also.583231/ Ive been looking at some different yagis for 2m and 70cm. Ive seen the cross-polarized antennas and also the circular polarized ones, and not overly familiar with either. Depending on the activities around the year, I find a lot of 2m simplex and 2m SSB activity. Our area has a 70cm repeater that is vertically polarized, and theres an upcoming 432 sprint this week. So it might make sense to have the versatility to switch polarizations. Looking at the Cushcraft 2m Hi-Lo cross yagi, it... (see pic below) I followed the DX Engineering guide and adjusted the traps to optimize SWR at the center of the bands. All the traps had to be moved down because of this great sal****er ground. Unfortunately I am out of options for tuning the 40 meter band. There is a nice resonance point at 7.000 Mhz but I really would like to have this closer to 7.238MHz in the middle of the phone band. I am seeing an SWR of 5.3... I plan to run just two legs from the center connector with one of the dual wires cut to 20 meters on each leg. Im trying to avoid a fan dipole. Kind of like this: --------======+=====-------- Has anyone tried this and will it work? Do I need to calculate different leg lengths that are different from a standard dipole? Should I just put and alligator clip between the 20M and 40M section of each leg(not preferable)? /////////////////////////////////////////// Need help with Alpha Delta DX-A Posted: 02 Oct 2017 05:11 PM PDT https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thr...a-dx-a.583326/ Howdy Folks, Need some info. My G5RV got destroyed during Irma so I bought a DX-A Now I made the mistake of reading the install instructions, lol I have a 50 Rohm tower and have a hex beam on top So the instructions say must be mounted on a tower under a full size HF antenna Then a note, a hex type beam will not work The dx-a uses the hf antenna as a cap hat So I have to ask, has anyone installed a dx-a under a hex beam and had it time up Ok? Or should I send it back to rho Thanks and 73... Need help with Alpha Delta DX-A /////////////////////////////////////////// Using same ground radials for different radiators? Posted: 02 Oct 2017 08:10 AM PDT https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thr...iators.582608/ OK, please dont tear me up too much on this question.... I currently have a nicely done 6btv ground mounted vertical with about 60 radials. I have great success with this antenna but Id like to start fiddling with some gain, specifically, towards Asia the last trove of untapped DXCC entities (for me at least) I cant do a yagi, steppir, or hex beam but I can do wire antennas... Im thinking about a true end-fed longwire antenna with lobes at the end of the radiator. When I think about... And of course, the ever increasing problem on 160m is the noise from local domestic equipment. So . . . I thought Id make a receiving loop. Im not sure why so many people make their loops out of copper pipe or co-ax, and just a single turn. Fine, you may need to do that if you want to make a "Magnetic Loop" transmitting aerial . . . but I figured for receive Id be better off... 160m Receiving Loop Aerial |
