Default Antenna trap rubber caps...options

I have a Hy-Gain TH-3MK3 (Thunderbird) and the rubber end caps for the traps
have weather rotted.
Does anyone have a sugestion for an alternative or a quick fix for
replacements.
I know, I can order them through Hy-Gain. I do have some time issues.

Thanks,
Kirk

www.mcmaster.com has all sorts of useful things, including plastic and
rubber caps.

Quick shipping, it is rare that you not not get something from them
the next business day.

Very big online catalog.

Happy trails,

Shepard Hardware Products
Three Oaks, Michigan 49128

A well stocked hardware store (and some Home Depot/Lowes) will have these
usually in White (instead of black) in 1" to about 2" in 1/4" increments.

I usually find them as:

Crutch tips, shower rod end caps; galvanized fence post vinyl cap.

KEY ATTRIBUTE IS TO FIND -- UV resistant product -- which reduces
outdoor/sunlight effects.

For larger sizes -- you can look to desk grommets (woodworking/electrical
departments)

If they are just rotted and not completely gone how about a nice thick coat
of liquid electricians tape, Gods gift to amateur radio.

Hi Kirk,

What the others are pointing you to are just plain caps that would be
suitable for the end of the antenna elements, not the trap caps that I
think you are looking for.

I think I have a full set of them here. A couple of years ago I
ordered them from Hy gain. (not cheap!)

In disassembling the elements to replace the caps I found that all the
inside insulators in the traps were rotten too. The antenna was shot.
The cost of the new plastic inside insulators was horrendous. I stuck
the whole thing in the garage. Never did install the new caps. They
are in a box somewhere in the garage. Incidentally the antenna had
been stored inside for about 20 years, where all the plastic just
rotted.

Let me know if you are interested in them. Email me at
.
