I know there are some real antenna gurus on this group and wanted your
help to ID an antenna I just picked up. First off, it's big, real big, well bigger than my MP-33. I know it's either a KLM or M2 KT34XA I think, but what's throwing me off is the boom. I thought, from the last KLM catalog I have, that the boom was split in half, right in the middle. The one I have is split about 1/3 - 2/3 and is heavy wall 1/4" AL pipe, 32' total. The elements are definately KLM as they have the shorting straps, not the machined ones like M2 use. Blue capacitor caps on the trap portion. I suppose someone could have built a new boom?? Anyway, my plan for now was to to try to use it as the KT34A, which was a very popular 4 el. 16' boom, then when we move, add the XA portion which is another 16' and 2 elements but the way this is configured, I will have to get a new 16' boom to use it as the 34. Can it be used like this without changing the element tuning? It's in pretty decent condx. A few Q's. When did KLM shut down? When did they start using the "blue" caps. I hear there are "new" dimensions available for the element spacing and tuning. Are these posted anywhere or on someones web site? Could this also be an M2 or have they always used machined shorting straps? I will take some pictures of the unit if it will help ID it. Thanks folks. Appreciate the help. Cheers! Paul VE7KHz |
