This is probably not the newgroup I need to be on, but perhaps someone could
point me to one better suited for my question. I want to buy a portable AM radio that will receive a distant station that is close (in frequency) to a nearby station. The radio in my car does this just fine, but not any of the portable radios I've tried. I. The guy at Radio Shack told me I needed a radio with a digital tuner, so I bought one. Didn't work so I took it back. The display was digital; I don't know if anything else was. I had similar results at Circuit City and Best Buy. The clerks at these places appear to be clueless. Appreciate any help. Dave |

I use my communications receiver for that purpose. I listen to far away talk radio shows and often switch from AM to SSB filtering to decrease the interference problems. Switching between USB and LSB sometimes helps. -- 73, Cecil http://www.qsl.net/w5dxp -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 80,000 Newsgroups - 16 Different Servers! =----- |

You can also just call them -- they sorta specialize in long distance AM listening. Bob k5qwg |

Tuners don't have specs. The sales blurb NEVER tells prospective customers
what they really need to know - just the maximum setting values of the tuning capacitors in pF and of the coil inductance in microhenries. Its too late to find out the hard way after you've bought the useless thing. ---- Reg, G4FGQ |

The safest thing to do is visit a ham shop, take the cover off the box and
look inside before handing over any cash. --- Reg. |
