![]() I was thinking about putting up a hopfully soon , to be built horizontal center fed dipole my plan now seems to favor a tuner like a sgc231 I sorta have 2 choices but want to know a few pro /con's option 1 is putting the tuner ontop of the mast and feeding the dipole pretty straight foward option 2 would be to pu the tuner near the bottom of the mast (5ft ) and running some wire up to the top of the mast w/a glass insulator questions would it be ineficient to do option 2?? how bad would it be?? what type of run should it be, 450 ohm ladder line or just 2 wires run spaced apart does doing option 2 sorta defeat the point of using a far end tuner? if that support mast in option 2 is metal, is that 'bad' how far must my verticle wire be run away from the mast or must i use plastic/pvc?? I understand that the topside tuner would allow more power out over my coax run, but this isn't my main concern as if i lost a bit of power i just wouldn't mind or can compensate --i am more concerned about all the other factors (tvi, resnonance, efficiency) thanks |

If the tuner is lower, then keep the twin line, or its facsimile away from the metal support by three or so times the separation distance of the two feed lines. Don't forget to put chokes on the Transmission line to the tuner, and on the control lines to the tuner - at the tuner inputs for each. 73's Richard Clark, KB7QHC |

thank you very much for your help
i wounder I sorta thought w/a sgc tuner at antenna a 'choke' wouldn't be needed,- since the tuner has pl259's do you know a place that makes a water proof choke (as opposed to looping the coax or trying to rig turns around a core myself ?? the control cable chokes, would a snap on type do it could you recomend r a good place to get those or what ever is best , specifically , i never bought any of those thanks very much again In article , Richard Clark wrote: On Sat, 12 Feb 2005 00:32:25 GMT, ml wrote: I sorta have 2 choices but want to know a few pro /con's Hi OM, Either will probably be indistinguishable from the other. C'Mon, now, that is just too simple to make complex. Adding anything "waterproof" is far more likely to become waterlogged. Browse the conventional retail sites that cater to Hams. the control cable chokes, would a snap on type do it could you recomend r a good place to get those or what ever is best , specifically , i never bought any of those Radio Shack.... Buy several. 73's Richard Clark, KB7QHC |
