Elmer,
I'd like to install a 2m antenna in one of the stake pockets on my 02 F-150. For now I am just using a HT in the cab. Eventually, I'd like to put a mobile radio in there but the HT will have to do for now. Are some whips better than others? I just want a vertical whip for now (I need to keep the wife happy. The best would be a BNC connector that I could hide the antenna when she is using the truck...but I doubt that would hold up under 100mph highway driving). What do I need to consider when mounting the antenna? And what is the best coax to use? Tips on sealing the connectors? I am using a Vertex Standard VXA-700. Is there a whip that works well on TX for aviation and 2m bands? My emphasis for now is 2m though. I've read enough to make something work...I'd just like sage advise of folks who have been there and done that... Feeling like a CBer right now, can't wait to start homebrewing my base station...but I need to get ready for a trip in 1 week! Thanks, Carl [so new my call isn't in the database yet...I think it's lost!!!] |

Hi,
Here are a few links for you, Build this one for a few dollars or free if you have the items at the shop. http://www.eham.net/articles/7005 http://www.ac6v.com/antprojects.htm#2M for coax, rg-58 just fine for short run in the truck, just run the coax out the back of the cab same way the taillight wires pass from the back of the cab at the rubber gromet. Mount the antenna on a 2x4 and slip in in the stake pocket. Take it down or perhaps the xyl won't notice it ! ha ha. Welcome to 2m ! dude |
