Dear "Dr. Artaud:"
You limit your defamation to Amateur Astronomers. I have known many astronomers, both radio and optical astronomers, and I observed virtually none who could possibly be classified as "quite dysfunctional personality wise." Those few may simply have been shy. This anonymous bit of defamation should be disregarded. Mac N8TT -- J. Mc Laughlin - Michigan USA "Dr. Artaud" wrote in message snip You wouldn't happen to be an Amateur Astronomer, would you? When I used to be into the hobby, I noticed that many of the Amateurs were quite dysfunctional personality wise. (I know that in my case it's kind of like the kettle calling the pot black, figuratively, of course). Dr. Artaud |

If I were you, I would quickly add me to your plonk file and not bother yourself with the need to protect others. I have observed quite a few seriously dysfunctional amateur astronomers, they usually aren't the type that casually fit in with the masses. As Carl Jung would have explained, they honed their technical abilities at the expense of their personality. This he refers to as differentiation. He depicts this as a cross like structure, with thinking and feeling at opposite ends of one axis, and sensation and intuition at opposite ends of the other axis. He feels, as I do, that when you are differentiated into thinking, you progressively exclude feeling. These amateur astronomers are emasculated, quite awkward at dealing with women, quite oblivious to the needs of others, save for others involved in similar endeavors. Though they ostensibly appear male (some are female, nothing to write home about), they respond towards attractive women visiting the observatory as if they (the astronomers) are about 12 years old. I read your post to my wife, she broke out laughing. The idea that you feel that amateur astronomers aren't dysfunctional was too much for her to handle. She has likewise seen the dysfunction in these people. We used to belong to the AAAP, Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, http://trfn.clpgh.org/aaap/ "With over 500 members, it is one of the larger astronomy clubs in the nation.." http://trfn.clpgh.org/aaap/images/brashear.jpg You take umbrage because I mentioned amateur astronomers as dysfunctional, but in your zeal to find fault, you made an improper assumption, i.e. that I find the dysfunction only with them. Quite the contrary, model railroaders, HAM radio operators, remote control model enthusiasts, computer geeks, these all have decent populations that are dysfunctional, as do other more technical hobbies that do not currently come to mind. You also missed that my point of "the kettle calling the pot black". I mentioned this since I also believe that I fall into the dysfunctional category. So what? "Use the plonk file Luke", let the NG fend for themselves. Sincerely, a former dysfunctional amateur astronomer and a somewhat less (not very much less though) dysfunctional shortwave listener. : Thank you for your response. As I recently had the misfortune to need to reload my newsreader program, I have been unsure about those that I previously killfiled (plonked). You would seem to fit admirably into that category. I had read several of your posts and had vacillated on whether or not to killfile you. I think I'll err on the conservative side (apropos) and do it anyway. Take your Rilalin. Ritalin is a drug commonly used for ADHD and narcolepsy. The ADHD indication is often used for adolescents (I guess many would place me in that category by my writings), and for adults with narcolepsy. Being that I am no longer clinically adolescent and that I do not suffer from narcolepsy, I'm afraid that there are no indications for me concerning this product. I would like to thank you for expressing your concern about my health, this certainly puts you above many others on this NG. Dr. Artaud Doc. Doc,
My comment was not meant to offend you. I enjoy reading your posts, and I feel very badly that you took mine that way. Please understand that my pals and I say that phrase when somebody is making an intense effort to belabor the obvious (as a humorous way to let them know they've made their point). I guess I thought it was more universal ;^) Please accept my sincerest apologies, and do know that I actually do care about your health. -- Stinger "Dr. Artaud" wrote in message ... And what does all this have to do with amateur antennas?
It means that this will screw up propagation forcasting which many of us depend on for dxing. Like I said, what does it have to do with antennas? Perhaps the group should be renamed to "Antennas and Propagation", just like the IEEE professional interest one? HF ionospheric propagation has been a consistent topic of discussion in this group over the years, particularly in regards to propagation- prediction computer programs such as VOACAP. The demise of of an organization that provides the input parameters (solar flux, sunspot numbers) for these programs affects their utility. Jim, K7JEB |

![]() Watch and see as Bush "Act II popcorn man" becomes a one-term President. He's making the same mistakes as his daddy did in 92 and the Democrats will eat him and the GOP alive in 04. Clinton may have been a pot smoking womanizer, but the checks still came thru every Friday and more people were working when he was running the show in the O. Office. Considering that the Democrats have said time and time again through stump speeches and Non-Debates, they want to cut and run, I don't see how they will succeed in unseating Bush. Their job just got harder now that positive economic numbers have been coming out lately. His daddy's "mistake" was the idiot Perrot who took the votes away from republicans, can't you get that in your sculls? DemocRATS keep running out "disasters" and will come come with some new "crisis" or they will invent some. Like Global Warmint? It's the SUN stupid, human contribution amounts to a fart in a stadium. Sent the tree huggers to fight forest fires! BUm |
