Default Using Balanced-Twin line as Tuned Circuit.

New Program "TWINTUNE.exe"

Using a tuning capacitor across one end of a balanced-twin line with a
short circuit at the other, the combination of line and capacitor
behaves as a high-Q parallel-tuned circuit.

Applications include push-pull VHF power amplifiers and power
oscillators.

The program also assists with design of ordinary HF balanced-twin
open-wire transmission lines. Zo and attenuation is computed.

Download program TWINTUNE from website below in a few seconds and run
immediately.

John,

You are jumping the gun.
How do you know the program is any good?
You havn't had enough time to evaluate it yet.

Well Reg... I'd just use the formula which incorporates the velocity factor
of the line (twin lead)--cut the line a bit shorter then 1/4 wave, short one
end and place a required Xc at the other end... but, now I know where to get
a program to double check me--and, for some strange reason, I just trust ya!

Regards,
John

John, I'm glad you said "ya!" rather than "the program".

It is a fact that, these days, computer programs are far too often,
unjustifiably, treated as The Bible. It's similar to quoting or
misquoting the popular works of Terman, Brown and Kraus and inevitably
taking them out of context.

The most important characteristic of a program is it's Reliability.
And Reliability is a measure of Quality versus Time. And Quality is a
function of the programmer's ability to understand the real world, to
model it, and mathematically incorporate the model in his or her
programs.

Quality and Reliability, in the broadest sense, are measures of the
degree of conformance to the intended purpose. Indeed, they can be
measured.

However, people such as school teachers strenuously object to being
subjected to work measurement. Whereas skilled factory machine
operators are quite accustomed to it and their pay often depends on
it. You don't get paid for scrap.

It's time Prime Ministers and Foreign Secretaries were paid according
to their Quality performance.

But I've strayed far enough from lecher-lines. I appreciate your
comments which induced me into it.

This last post prompted me to have a look at that webpage of yours... and I
scanned the bio you did on yourself...
Funny, but before I read that, you looked more American than an AMERICAN! to
me...
I was shocked at your age too, I imagined you my age (52) or younger
(younger actually!) If your text is any sort of window on your mind--you
have managed to hold on to a youthful one!
It is a damn sorry state of affairs when the darn Brits start looking more
like American--than the Americans do!
Pascal was my favorite language--until I discovered "C"--and Borland
TuroPascal ROCKS!!!!

Warmest regards,
John
