Default HF Yagi With Elevation Rotor ??

Had an experienced Ham claim that rotating an HF yagi in the elevation plane
would give significant signal gain on some signals.

Never heard of such a thing

Comments please

why wouldnt it?
if you raise the directed end of the antenna you are changing the angle
of radiation so you would effect the performance of the antenna
also effective if you live on a mountain top and want to work the valley
if you didnt lower the antenna it would shot right over there heads
you aim the antennas Az direction with good effect so why wouldnt
elevating the antenna has similar effect?

The simple way to find out is to model it on Eznec/4nec2 etc...

In my mind a HF yagi will never be quite high enough and there will be
multiple lobes at differing takeoff angles. Changing the boom angle to
the horizontal will tend to change where these lobes point so one would
experience a change in gain to stations at specific distances. How much
difference I dont know because I dont have a handle on how critical the
refraction angle is through the ionosphere.

I know a ham who raises and lowers his motorized tower
in order to vary his take-off-angle for maximum S-meter
reading on the receive end - low for domestic, high for
DX.

Gee Cecil! I have just been convinced that there is nothing you can do to an
antenna to improve communication!
I am now content with the notion that propagation controls communication
and nothing you can do to an antenna to change that TOA ....Grin

But all of the R.F fell down in the same place after
hitting the ionasphere Right?

Just ran a 2-element 20m beam at a height of ten feet and
got a TOA of 55 degrees. Ran it at a height of 100 feet
and got a TOA of 10 degrees.
