Unlike the Kiwa loops, the Quantums don't seem to turn up on Ebay very
often. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen one there. Since the Quantum loops are still available new, I guess the used market just isn't as 'hot' for them. Steve |

I got to compare the Kiwa, the Quantum Qx and the 1 meter (diameter)
Wellbrook 1530 loop on a Drake R8B. First of all, regarding the Kiwa, you don't need the regen if you have decent radio. Thus, screw the Kiwa since it only works on BCB. The Wellbrook beat the smaller Quantum Qx, but I don't know how it would compare to the larger Quantum pro. Then again, the ALA-100 and your own wire loop is less than the larger quantum. Unless your radio sucks, I'd get the Wellbrook and go untuned. The advantage to the wellbrook is you get full HF coverage, while the Quantum only goes to 2MHz. The ALA100 is billed as an outdoor very long wire version of the Wellbrook loops, but It works well with about a 10ft (length) wire, and exceptionally well with about 40ft of wire. http://www.wellbrook.uk.com/ALA100b.html The website doesn't explain the product very well. Here is one implementation: http://www.lazygranch.com/images/radio/loop1.jpg The amplifier is at the bottom of the loop. http://www.lazygranch.com/images/radio/loop4.jpg Not shown is the wallwart and the interface box you put near the radio. I've hunted NDB's with the ALA100 using a loop no bigger than a pie plate. Of course, this is without 20 miles of the NDB. RHF wrote: Steve -and- For One and All, . The Quantum QX 8" and QX Pro 15" do show up on eBay : But since they are still being made by that wonderful American Craftsman and Electronic Artist "Gerry Thomas" under the business name of "Radio Plus+" and still can be found at the DX Tools .Com website = http://www.dxtools.com/ . eBAY PRICES and AVAILABILITY - Kiwa -verses- Quantum : The 'legendary' Kiwa Air Core MW Loop Antenna simply gets part of its 'legendary' Aurora from the fact that it is no longer being made; and therefore there is a limited number of them and that number may be getting smaller with the passing of each day, week, month and year. On eBay the Kiwa Air Core MW Loop Antenna often sells 'used' without any warranty for more then the original retail price of about $400. This is in contrast to the Quantum QX 7.5" and QX Pro 15" Ferrite Loop Antennas that still can be bought "New" with a Limited Warranty for about $200 and $300 respectively. Question ? Why buy a used Quantum on eBay without a warranty; when you can buy a New one with a Warranty; unless you can get it at least 30% cheaper on eBay. Maximum Price for the Quantum QX 7.5" should be $140 +S&H and QX Pro 15" should be $210 +S&H - IMHO otherwise Buy-It-New direct from the Builder Himself - Again IMHO. . .
