Default Magnetic antenna base in pickup truck

Hello,

I have a Ranger pickup with a spray in Line X bed liner. I am
interested using a magnetic base for a Hamstick HF antenna possibly one
of the brands that have 3 magnets in a triangle. Has anyone had any
luck in using such an arrangement. I know a VUF/UHF magnetic base
antenna will work in the bed liner but of course this is not as long
and stiff as the Ham Stick.

Any help or opinions are welcome.

I tried that with my Ranger. Didn't work too well. Never could get a
decent swr on the Hamstick (10M). I finally bought one of those mounts
that goes in the stake pocket and it worked great. I think the guy
advertises in QST. They're about the same price as one of those mag
mounts but get the antenna up out of the bed. If you can't find the ad,
I'll sell you mine since I don't use it any more (gave the Ranger to my
kid).
