Anyone know of a VHF/UHF antenna that can mount on the glass and then
actually stay attached to the glass? I used one several years ago and on a hot summer day, it came off. It used that sticky tape which was worthless. Duffy www.wb8nut.com |

On-Glass mounts work quite well - HOWEVER Antenna Specialists (Cleveland based) - who has the trademark (and patents) for On-Glass antennas -- had significant problems with southern US installers -- who installed these antennas in high humidity environments (often outdoors). I have installed mine on 3 different automobiles - since 1986 - NONE have fallen off after 200,000 + miles ... and I have hit tree limbs, car washes, etc. The aerial may have been bent - but the mount held. They had an entire web page (old web site) to address the proper installation, etc. They actually specified to southern installers to perform these installations in air conditioned bays (with the rest of the radio install). "Copy cat" imported products also flooded the market -- with no instructions or real understanding of the correct mounting techniques - many consumers / installers were obvious to these differences. "OnGlass mounts are bad". "I had a bad experience", etc. http://www.antenna.com/product_overv...0418&styleid=6 Just another version of the Bad Capacitor situation -- buy and select for price (with no understanding of the fundamentals) - because they all look the same. http://www.badcaps.net/causes/ PCTEL in Chicago purchased Antenna Specialists a few years ago. http://antenna.pctel.com/ w9gb |

Hi
In Europe the outside parts are normally glued to the glass using a silicone adhesive. The sticky tape is only used on the inside. I have succesfully remounted 2 metre antennas using silicone adhesive. Use an adhesive intended for wet environments (e.g. intended for caulking bathrooms or aquariums). vy 73 Joergen, OZ7TA "J. D. SOME automobiles are not appropriate due to tinting, special glazing used - contact PCTEL A/S for details. g. beat |

Dave WD9BDZ Super Glue will not stand up outdoors- maybe 2 weeks- but the real problem is that it is so rigid that it will likely crack windshield glass ( not rear window) because the rate of expansion/contraction of the mounting foot is different for that of the windshield glass. The makers of the rear view mirror button and cement went to a great deal of trouble to ensure that the scintered metal foot and the anaerobic cement both had the same coefficient of expansion as the windshield glass. Had mine fall off, too, used Rear View Mirror Glue
on mine, and no problem since! similar to super glue--auto parts houses carry it. Jim NN7K Cecil Moore wrote: J. Kragh wrote: Use an adhesive intended for wet environments I'll bet the adhesive used for repairing wetsuits would work well. |
