Hello,
I recently received an SX-28 from a buddy of mine. It is 'mostly' there, except for the following: 1. Where the dial and s-meter bezels should be, there is a neatly cut 12" rectangular hole. It looks like it was milled out. Whether this was a Hallicrafters mod or a fool trying to add something like a linear scale, I don't know. 2. No S-Meter 3. No dial pointer mechanisms - just one dial lamp hanging on a cord. First Question: Has anybody seen this modification before? Second Question: Does anybody have a front panel, dial and s-meter bezels, pointer mechanism, etc. that they could part out from a scrap unit. Or, does anybody have a scrap unit in the New England area they would like to sell? Thanks, David Goncalves |

I don't recall seeing anything like that before, but anything is possible.
Hams in the 1950s delighted in doing "mods," and/or re-using scavenged parts, for better or for worse :-) I can't help with the meters and other hardware, but I do have a great .PDF art file of all the SX-28 dials in exact scale, courtesy of Doug Moore, which you could use to reproduce all of them if you figure out the hardware situation. This art is not for commercial use, so if you contact me via http://antiqueradio.org/contact.htm , I will send it to you in personal email. (Don't do a Reply to this message.) Regards, Phil |
