Default Hammarlund HQ-120-X

I have a Hammarlund HQ-120-X on my bench as a restoration candidate.
Both the bandspread and the tuning dial are badly warped (from
heat?). Has anyone successfully flattened the Hammarlund dials, and
if so, how was it done? Or is there a source of replacement dials for
the 120?

TIA

John G.

The dials in the HQ-129X, and HQ-140X are the same as dials in the
HQ-120X. If all else fails, look for a junker HQ-129X or HQ-140X. I
don't know of any source for replacements other than a donor set. --Ed

I don't know about Hammarlund dials but I flattened some
Hallicrafters dials by heating them in hot water and then
pressing them between two flat surfaces. I had to cut a
hole in the middle to clear the bushing. be careful and
test an inconspicuous spot on the dial to make sure the
water doesn't dissolve the printing!

Try www.radiodaze.com for possible replacements. You will probably have to
call Phil.

It would probably be easier to make new ones using a scan or perhaps
laying out the dial with CAD software.

Don Lancaster used to tout the notion of doing this as a raw
PostScript programming job. It probably could be but the fact no one
does it leads me to question its efficacy.
