Does anyone know if this was offered without the final compartment
shielding? I have two vintage manuals, one shows one with the shield, one
without, surrounding the 6146 tube.

Hi Dave:

I have a couple Pacemakers. They only came one way, although there may have
been changes during production. It was not long lived, because it was a
stupid design. When Johnson saw how the competition made their ssb rigs,
they stopped production. Everytime you change bands, you need to null the
carrier.
