An RME-84 was donated to our church garage sale. I would like to sell
the radio to someone who will enjoy owning and restoring it. This group seems like a good place to start. I've posted pictures at http://www.menopausalmomma.com/rme84/ You can see that there are some scratches on the speaker grill which have removed the outer paint in small places. There are a few more minor scratches in various places, and one larger one in the upper right corner of the front. One tube has been replaced with a "modern" replacement at some time in the past. All-in-all I think it's in pretty fine, but not perfect, shape cosmetically for a radio from the late 1940's. All dials and switches work smoothly, except for B.O Pitch, which spins freely and acts like it isn't connected to anything. Against all advice I now find on the Intenet (I should have looked before), I attached a 20 something foot zip cord antennae and fired it up. It warmed up nicely and I easily picked up AM stations. Sound was decent. I picked up some religious thing on one of the other bands.I ran it for about 10 minutes with no problems, and then shut it down We don't want to get an outrageous amount of money, but do want to get a fair price. On the other hand, the only prices I can find on the 'net are from around 1999 or 2000, so I'm not quite sure what a fair price is in today's market. The radio is located in Omaha Nebraska. It would, of course, be best if the buyer can pick it up. If it must be shipped, we will pack it carefully (following any special instructions from the buyer), and ship it at cost. If you are interested in purchasing it, contact me off-list with an offer or questions about the unit. Doug Swartz |
