Hello,
I'm the owner of an SP600 now aligned, and receiving well. The only issue I'm stuck on is the signal strength meter is not reading. The AVC (?) side where it reads modulation works when switched in, but no S reading. This indicates a live meter, but why no signal strength on any signals? Strong or weak, nothing registers. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, GB |

You can squirt some contact cleaner into it around the terminals. I've had one go dead until cleaned. Other than that make sure the side of the AVC-MAN switch that connects the meter is good. Again, some contact cleaner there may fix the problems. Also, check the meter level adjustment to make sure its not all the way off and is not open. This is a very simple circuit and not very much can go wrong with it. BTW, the meter will vary with the modulation level on AM because the AVC time constant is so fast. You can slow it down if you like by hanging a capacitor across the AVC terminals on the back of the RX. This will also cure low frequency intermodulation distortion in the audio. -- Richard Knoppow Los Angeles WB6KBL |

There's been a garden variety of contact problems with this receiver because of where it was stored, so on. Hopefully this may do the trick. Again, thank you for your help. Thanks, GB. |

First thing make sure the RF Meter adjustment on the back is turned up. If turned down all the way the meter won't register. SP-600s are great receivers. -- Richard Knoppow Los Angeles WB6KBL |
