Hello,

Just started the restoration of my "new" transceiver.I post some pictures
here to see it.It looks well build with good solderings and wiring.I saw
two problems.One modification in the zero meter area and two melted
wires.Any help for what this mod is and any thinks fro the melted wire
problem?Im cleaning now and then i will make the resistance checks,replace
caps etc.

what else to look critical in this rig??

Just picked up a Zenith Royal, 1962; 6 PNP germaniums inside. Replaced the
3 electrolytics, found a solder spike rammed into another wire, but there
is one remained issue. No LO. I can inject 455kHz into the 1st IF and
there is lots of audio. Basically, the convertor transistor is not
oscillating. The coils involved are not open, the PNP has normal bias.
Can a germanium lose high frequency gain, and still have good DC bias? of
course, "high frequency" in this case is 1.5MHz.

I was at one of my clubs by-annual build-a-thon .

I could not afford to by one of the $90 kits , I had plenty of projects to
bring .

Brought a IFR A7550 spectrum analyzer that I traded for here , and with a
bunch of problems that non were stated , to the build-a-thon .

Near the end of the day , a older gentleman walked by [ this was at the
local community center ] and stuck his head in , I commented that now that
he was in the room , he had to join the club .

He was looking to see if the...

Howdy. My heathkit hw-101 started acting up a short time ago, first the
mode switch started snapping and cracking. Figuring it was just dirty, I
would run it back and forth through all its positions and it would clear
up. then one day, the mode switch let out a cracking, during tx, and a 4.7k
resistor on the modulator board burned up. I replaced that resistor and
cleaned up the mode switch. Testing went great, but an hour later, while
transmitting a 100 watt carrier, large amounts of smoke...
