"Boat Anchor" & Classic Equipment
/////////////////////////////////////////// Kenwood ts 520 verses Yaesu FT 101 Posted: 14 Mar 2017 06:06 AM PDT http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...ft-101.559059/ Im very familiar with the TS 520 and never operated a FT 101. I know some of the internal differences but what about performance? Which was the better radio or were they about the same? Was there much of a price difference between the two? Ive been told, Japan made the TS 520 a game changer and started the demise of some of the American companies. I assume the 101 was direct competition for the 520. thanks /////////////////////////////////////////// VFO-120 scale adjust (and, is this "Classic?") Posted: 13 Mar 2017 08:10 PM PDT http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...lassic.558951/ Right, so, first off - not sure if this is the right subsection. Im sure if its not Ill be told so. The title says "Boat anchor and classic" and I suspect 1980 vintage by now might be considered "classic", even if the unit in question has never seen a tube in its life. If not, what is classic? (OK that ought to start a discussion / flame war...) On to the issue. Just picked up a Kenwood VFO-120 unit. I have a TS-130, mostly to lug into the woods for various off-grid cabin trips and not... I recently (Thursday 2/2) got it working again after replacing many bad transistors, caps & resistors; however, there is still a hum on the audio & before the S-meter quit working, it was reading a steady 40 over 9. Before anyone asks, yes, there are new caps on the power supply board (2 1000mF vs. the original 2000mF as my local store doesnt sell 2000mF caps & Mousers website is horrible). Has anyone else had this problem of where else the hum could be... The original knob was broken and only half of it remains. The original knobs are evidently unobtainium. I heard rumors that there were some reproductions of the knob made at one time. Does anyone have any information on this? Don K5HFG /////////////////////////////////////////// Heath SB-100, 101, 102 Low RF output only on 40 Meters Posted: 13 Mar 2017 03:22 PM PDT http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...meters.558978/ Somewhere in the annals of SB-10x experiences and modifications, I recall reading about a fix for low RF output if it only appears on 40 Meters, while spec output is reached for all other bands. From memory, it appeared to be a simple fix or modification. Does anyone else recall this work, and where can I find it for download? I could not find it in the readily available and recognized mods and fixes for the SB/HW-10x series. Thanks. Jack W3RU |
