Default Receiver Army VHR-401 WWII rx

Picked up an odd ball receiver, Army nomenclature VHR-401 with a Phila date of
1943. Covers 108-144 megacycles, Is rack mounted design with National HRO
style dial and gearbox system of tuning. Anyone in the group familiar with
this rascal. I'ts heavy too... May have been an aircraft ground receiver?
