Default Need SX-122 S meter

Hello all,
I hope someone can help me with this one. I have brought a basketcase
SX-122 back to life and only need a working S meter to complete the
restoration. The meter that is in the rcvr now has lost its damping and bounces
around too much. The meter repair place said the low cost design of the meter
makes it non repairable. Can anyone help me out? Thanks ahead of time for
reading this. 73 Mike KF6KXG Please reach me by email at

If it was mine,I would put a small cap across the meter; maybe .05uFd for a
start. Also, maybe the AGC line has a dry cap that should be replaced.

Don,
Thank you for the suggestion. I will give it a try this wkn. I recapped 99%
of the rcvr but will go back and reck any cap on the AVC line. My diagnosis of
the mtr itself being faulty comes from two tests. First, I substituted a VOM
for the meter and the needle did not bounce around. Second, at the meter repair
store the mtr bounced a lot when hooked to a bench test supply. So I think I'll
go back and try the .05 cap across the mtr terminals. 73 Mike KF6KXG

Update on the meter problem-
I found some time today an tried various caps across the meter terminals to
increase the damping. The gods of glowing filaments were not with me. I think
that the moving magnet on the needle assembly has lost some magnetism or some
turns are shorted, (but the meter will still read once it settles down...sort
of like a compass needle). Anyone have a replacement meter they want to sell?

My meter repair place is Etalon Instrument Co. in Alhambra,CA. The guy their,
Mike, is really nice and I could tell they normally work on calibration of
SUPER ACCURATE and expensive stuff. He was just doing me a favor. But give him
a call anyway. The phone # is 1(626)282-2512l. Hope this helps you, Mike KF6KXG
