How is the dial reading displayed on this radio?
Most photos don't show this feature very clearly. Pete |

Its more or less pretty standard. There's a calibrated dial behind the
panel (upper left side). A rotating mask mask reveals the band in use. There's a dial light that sort of works but the bulb is all but unheard of (or at least I can't find any!). I used a RatShak 1.5v lamp. That huge dial-like item in the middle is used for mechanical pre-sets for tuning. BTW, if you obtain one of these receivers, you'll invariably need to change out the old metallic rectifier stack in the HV/AC portion of the PS and the 2 selinium rectifiers used in the filamant circuit. That's a good description. I also posted a closeup photo in the
alt.binaries.pictures.radio newsgroup. need to change out the old metallic rectifier stack in the HV/AC portion of the PS and the 2 selinium rectifiers used in the filamant My AN/GRR-5 ( http://antiqueradio.org/angrr-5.htm ) works, but I should replace those rectifiers, I suppose. Did you use something like a 1N4007 diode? Haven't looked at the schematic in ages. Regards, Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios http://antiqueradio.org/index.html |

Yep, a bridge of 1N1007's did the trick, in both locations. Turn down the
filamant pot, first, then power-up and re-adjust with the filament voltage to the required 1.4 volts. Before replacing the diodes, the best I could get was about 1.2 volts.
