Hello,
I'm totally new to tube project. I recently found two PCL86 and I was looking for simple schematic to start with. I found lots of transmitters and a good amount of regenerative receivers schematics. I was wondering if it's possible to build any kind of single (or even two) tube tx-rx for the same frequency (even a fixed one in the 80m or 40m bands) perhaps using the same xtal oscillator for both receive and transmit sections. Don't flame if I'm just telling nonsense HI. Best 73 Francesco IZ5DWF |

Don't flame if I'm just telling nonsense HI. It's possible, and there are some walkie-talkie circuits that are a Pierce crystal oscillator when the key is down, and then reconfigure themselves into a regenerative receiver when the key is up. This means the key consists of a whole heck of a lot of contacts. I think the old PRC-6 might be something worth looking at. BUT, I think you're probably going to have an easier time building a seperate transmitter and receiver and putting them on the same chassis. Check out the ARRL Mobile Manual for some really neat tube-type transceiver projects, some of which are quite small. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

If you want to get into tube homebrew you'll want to join the glowbugs mailing list which is dedicated to just that area. They're also a = good group of folks, and they will _not_ flame you for your questions. Here's the sign-up info: ---------------- For homebuilding transmitters and receivers using tube technology, there is the Glowbugs e-list; send an email to: and only write: subscribe glowbugs ---------------- =20 I agree with the other comment you received, which is to build the transmitter and receiver separately (you can use a common power supply). The PCL86 (14GW8) should make an excellent transmitter running about 10W input. The other PCL86 could be used in a regenerative receiver, but you might want to add another tube or two for either an isolation RF amp and/or another stage of audio amplification. Join up with glowbugs and you'll have a bunch of folks suggesting possible designs. In the meantime here's a link you should enjoy: =20 http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaver...ham/pwxcvr.htm =20 73, Mike, KK6GM =20 73, Mike, KK6GM |
