Default WTB capacitors, 1252@50V

Hi to the list!

Anyone got at least one NOS 125@ 450V electrolytic cap for the Drake AC-4
power supply? Would prefer to replace both of them, but if not, one will
have to do.
Please answer direct to me at:

Thanks

Guess I should watch my typing according to the subject line. Please excuse
the blunder.

I strongly recommend using a modern replacement. Honestly. If you stick
a NOS cap in there, it's not going to last long. I think you're a lot
better off with one of the inexpensive Panasonics from Digi-Key.

First, bookmark the DRAKE Home Page operate by WB4HFN
Large number of articles on Drake equipment repair, tips and component
replacement
http://www.wb4hfn.com/DrakeHomePage.htm

The Internet has replaced the inefficiency of searching large paper books
and documents.
That's what GOOGLE and search engines are all about (modern day card
catalogs for the Internet library)

Drake AC-3 / AC-4 troubleshooting by Mark Gilger, WB0IQK
http://www.wb4hfn.com/DrakeArticles/...leshooting.htm

YOU HAVE SEVERAL OPTIONS -- FOR REPLACEMENT.

1. Use the AC-4R replacement board designed by Mike Bryce of SunLight Energy
Systems (available on his web site).
$ 15 plus shipping for the PC board is a bargain.
http://www.theheathkitshop.com/drakeac4rreplace.html

2. You can "rebuild the capacitor" - like Al Parker, W8UT did for his AC-4.
http://www.wb4hfn.com/DrakeArticles/...Rebuilding.htm
This was done several years ago with R-390A restorations.
http://r-390a.us/filter_capacitors.htm
Suppliers finally woke up and took note that maybe they should be offering
these for restorers (guitar amps, antique radios, boatanchors, etc.)

3. Both DigiKey and Mouser have a wide selection (snap in/screw in) of
Panasonic, CDE, Mallory, Vishay/Sprague and United Chemi-Con electrolytic
capacitors.
Pages 482 to 486 in Mouser catalog has a wide selection of "cans" (screw,
snap in, 105 degree)
http://www.mouser.com/catalog/621/482.pdf

DigiKey - Panasonic TS series
http://store.yahoo.com/triodeel/capacitors.html

4. Antique Electronic Supply also have NOS and new mfg twist locks
http://www.tubesandmore.com/

5. CDE is now selling some of their capacitors "on-line" direct to
customers. 105 degree and 500 volt options available
http://www.cornell-dubilier.com/

6. Triode Electronics (here in Chicago) run by Ned Carlson has capacitors
and a wide range of parts
http://store.yahoo.com/triodeel/capacitors.html

Good luck with it, 73

Thanks to all you folks that responded. I got two of them on the way, NOS
of all things.

I got the TR-4 on the air as of now, with the power supply from my twins.

I second Greg's recommendation on this:

1. Use the AC-4R replacement board designed by Mike Bryce of

SunLight Energy

$ 15 plus shipping for the PC board is a bargain.

I have one for one of my Heathkit HP-23 power supplies, and it is one
fine piece of work! Almost to pretty to hide in a case. I'm about to
order one for my AC4.
