Need Sperry SP-352 displays or an "alternate" for my aging GC-1005 clock -Joe Remove NOSPAM Joe - A GC-1005 clock appeared on eBay last week and I did some research, since it had a display problem that I passed along to the eBay seller. As you know, the Heathkit GC-1005 clock uses the Sperry SP-352 displays. The displays in this series are raised-cathode, planar-gas-discharge displays. This particular model number is 2 digit decimal with decimal. Analog Services is a good first telephone call for the replacement part. Analog Services, Inc. 1169 Haynesville Road Reynolds Station, KY 42368 270-276-5671 e-mail addresses on this web site http://www.logwell.com/contact/index.html Analog stocks the Sperry / Beckman / Babcock plasma (neon) displays for SIE / Computalog digital readout surface panels. We have the SP-736 / SP-332 and the SP-324 (digital line power module only) for the NIM modules, and the SP-756 / SP-352 for the older Slim Line a/k/a Thin Line panels. They also stock the hard to find high voltage display driver integrated circuits (chips), DD-700 / DS8880 / SN75480 / ECG2028, used with plasma displays. http://www.logwell.com/capabilities/stock/displays.html Analog also has a sister company - Scarce Components - for those hard to find discontinued or obsolete transistors, ICs or other parts http://www.scarcecomponents.com/ Babcock Display Division still makes these displays (But they are not cheap), UNFORTUNATELY BABCOCK CAN NOT LONGER SUPPLY THE DRIVER CHIP. http://www.babcockinc.com/babcock/display.home.html Raised Cathode, Digits SP-352 7 Segment, 2 Digit, Raised Cathode Technical bulletin http://www.babcockinc.com/babcock/do...r_index_id=491 SPECIAL HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS FOR SP-352 DISPLAYS MOS circuit components in this assembly are susceptible to damage from static electricity and high voltage transients. A shorting pad of conductive foam has been installed across the interface connector. The shorting pad should not be removed until the terminating connector is wired and ready to be connected to the assembly. The interface connector should always be terminated with either the shorting pad or the terminating connector. DO NOT TOUCH the interface connector with fingers or tools in the absence of the shorting pad or the terminating connector unless properly grounded. The data connector should not be connected or disconnected while power is applied to the unit. ---------------------- Good luck !! Greg, w9gb |

Thanks Greg
Good GOSH some of the price quotes I'm getting on these. $45, $65+ ea The guy next door worked for Sperry Rand, he had a draws full of stuff........gave them away in January! About 1000 were liquidated about 3 years ago when Sperry closed its doors after Clinton killed there contracts here in Long Island (New Hyde Park) I may just put it up for sale here and build a LED clock with backup batt. This clock works (flickers) the seconds display is dead, (works when you swap the display's) What a bummer -Joe "G.Beat" wrote in message news:W40Xc.65460$mD.37405@attbi_s02... Joe -
Tough choices. The displays do have a specific usage life (50% brightness considered time to replace) If you restored now, would be a collectors item (see the number of Nixie tube clocks being built). I really like these displays (warmer than LEDs and not like Nixies) and at least Babcock is still manufacturing the display. I do not know what Heathkit used in the 9180s for a driver chip (if they used the Sperry driver chip). Your neighbor could have been a millionaire by now. What a bummer, out of all the junk in the house this is what I liked
At this point I'd have to go $50 a pop or play Ebay games for parts units. Im putting it up for sale $30, also have a Heath HM-15 SWR meter some ninny drilled 2 holes for mounting under a shelf $25 (email me for photos) Scopes and stuff here http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze2pdtg/home.htm Thanks for all your help -Joe Remove (NOSPAM) "G.Beat" wrote in message news:9c3Xc.308077$a24.28520@attbi_s03... I need a single SP-352 Panaplex display pull or a SP-353
Really dont want to part with this clock, I tweaked up the high supply 30 volts by lowering the supply series resistor and the digits seem to be working fine for almost 2 weeks now Id be happy to pay for a pull, I just need a single display to get the seconds rolling, the original one is dead Anything, even an SP-353 (3 digit) -Joe (NOSPAM) "Joe" wrote in message news:kC7Xc.9519$VY.1226@trndny09...
