I just acquired my first piece of Axis gear-
a Japanese 94-5 receiver. I'm tickled but, being a compulsive "completeist," I've now let my self in for a likely doomed attempt at finding all the other "goodies" for a 94-5 set. It's in very nice shape on the panel and inside, but the case has some "issues." Some of the hardware has been removed and the leather flaps are missing. 1. Can someone take some photos of the sides and top of an original case so I can fabricate replacement hardware? Also- how did the leather attach? Are there any good-condition cases floating around? 2. Does anyone have a circuit diagram? I have no intention of making any wiring changes at all. With the exception of a couple of wires tacked in for a headphone, it's all original and very clean. I'd love to hear it, but if I can't get it to play without changes than it just doesn't play. 3. What's the current "feel" for repainting the case? 4. The tubes inside are based like many British tubes of the same era- 4-pinner with one pin offset and "banana plug" leaf springs on the pins. Are their British tubes that will work here? They might be hard to find and expensive, but I suspect not as scarce as these originals with pre-war kanjis on them. 5. Two tube shields are missing. They look like common shields that were on several commercial American radios in the 1930s. Anyone? 6. The filament pot knob is offset 45 degrees from the correct position, but I'm intimidated about trying to remove and fix it. Are these knobs fragile? 7. Know anyone who can read pre-war kanjis? 8. The tuning charts are beginning to fade. I'm carefully removing the charts to scan them. Any attempt to put the originals back in the tight little holders would surely destroy them, so they will go in preserving sleeves and be replaced by the replicas. Anyone want copies of the scans? Thanks for any help. 73 Dave S. |
