I saw a discussion on the QRP-list about helping
out the Tsunami victims by giving up a trip to a
QRP event or not purchasing that new radio.

While that is admirable and the victims can sure
use the help, I offer an alternative thought.

Instead of not buying that radio, buy two. Take
the second to a UPS store. UPS will send the
item to actiondrop who will sell it on eBay, take
their normal fee, and send the proceeds for
Tsunami Relief. The details are at
http://www.auctiondrop.com

Others can bid on the items on eBay knowing that
their "play" money is going for Tsunami Relief.

The result is that the QRP vendors have increased
sales which will strengthen their business.
Radios and other items are available for the
enjoyment of all, and the victims receive
financial support.

Another possibility. Make a pact with yourself
that for each QSO you make, you'll send a dollar
to Tsunami support. Pick something fun so that
helping out isn't a matter of doing without, it's
a byproduct of having a good time.

I sent the above to a QRP-list and this is what came back

Ya know, I'm not going to "engage" that list administrator.

I thought I had a valid suggestion. The original poster in the
thread started out saying that he was going to take $1,000 from his
ham radio budget and send the cash to a charity. While that's noble
and sure could help, I had another way that he could help out and
still support Ham Radio vendors and let others give too.

Oh well.
