Can anyone tell me what the differences are?
By the way, I have been impressed with the speed and quality of the responses I have gotten about parts, etc. from Kenwood. Thanks. 73, Bob AD3K |

I had a TS-700S years ago and dim memory sez the TS700S only allowed
repeater operation in the 146 MHz and 147 MHz portions of the band. About 1977, a new repeater subband was established at 144.5-145.5 MHz. The SP model from kenwood allowed the proper repeater splits over the entire 2M band But a mod was available and I recall modding my TS-700S for the new repeater sub bands. -- CL -- I doubt, therefore I might be ! And I "think" it had the repeater offsets for the 145 range already installed. It's been a while so don't hold this as gospel. I'm sure someone else knows the skinny. Dan/W4NTI |

Thanks for your response. Was the mod very complex? There seems to be a lot more information on the S than on the SP available on the web, and I've found some places listing service manuals for sale that lump them together. I don't want to buy a service manual for the S if it won't be useful for the SP. 73, Bob AD3K |

Dan/W4NTI Dan, Thanks for replying. From what I've learned so far, both the S and the SP had digital displays, and at least one of the differences was the expanded range where repeater offsets would work. They both had a low power button and a button for a tone for use with European repeaters. My SP also has a jack for an external tone encoder but I don't know if the S did. 73, Bob AD3K |

Did your S have a jack for an external tone encoder?

The TS-700S and TS-700SP are analog radios -- both with digital readouts
Don't recall a tone encoder input -- but I built a wein bridge oscillator inside the TS-700S for my favarite repeater. As I recall -- the 145 mod kit for the TS-700S was ordered from Kenwood -- fairly easy to install. has a TS-700S -- perhaps e-mail him Some web pages to read http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1246 TS-700S Operating Manual at Mods.dk http://www.mods.dk/view.php?ListManuals=kenwood RixPic http://www.rigpix.com/kenwood/ts700s.htm -- CL -- I doubt, therefore I might be ! Thanks. I've emailed him, and I've looked at the web sites below.
