Default Looking for a Hallicrafters SX-38/In florida

Looking for one of these radios. Used to have a pristine example but
my mother threw it in the dumpster a long time ago. Now that I have
the time, I would like to have one again for old time's sake.
Thank you

Are you looking for an S-38, rather than an SX-38?

If so, there are a number of versions, including the S-38, the S-38A, S-38B,
S-38C, S-38D and S-38E.

If you are not familiar with these radios, the S-38, A, B and C all have 2
half moon circular dials. The D and E are large slide rule dials.

There are many around and they are fairly inexpensive for old radios. Mke
sure you get one that is restored so that you do not have to service it. It
is easy and inexpensive for a competent hobbyist.

They are a classic radio, so enjoy it.

It's also an AC-DC radio with one side of the line grounded to the
chassis and it has a metal cabinet--a killer.

So enjoy it CAREFULLY!

The chassis should have intergral electrical insulators that
isolate it from the cabinet.

Personally, I'd use a polarized grounded plug to insure the case was at
ground
potential (while maintaining the insulators to keep the neutral side
isolated).

The original S-38 had six tubes (dedicated BFO instead of a regenerative
IF), so it might be the more desirable from a boatanchor tube count aspect..

Uncle Peter, you're right! The operative words are "should have". But,
as Dirty Harry once famously asked, "How lucky do you feel?"

As long as the original poster realizes that all that is between him and
an eyeball rattling shock is 4 crumbling, rotted 50 year old rubber
washers that may or may not even be there, then he'll be OK...

Your are right, the ones with the half moon circular dials on each
side. I am looking forward to finding one here in Florida. If
someone has one at a reasonable price, I would be very interested. As
I said, I really want it for old-time's sake. My whole house is
decorated in Art Deco 1930's and 1940's style. I do not know anything
about fixing them, but would like it to be in good working and
cosmetic condition.
Thank you,
