Looking for AM transmitters of the type used for broadcasting. Want
something in the 500 to 2000 Watt range. Must be all solid state. Typical examples include: Harris SX-1A, Gates One, Armstrong 1000B, Omnitronix AM 1000A, etc. These may not be "vintage boat anchors" yet, but perhaps they can be found associated with such gear. I suspect the best place to find one may be at radio stations who are surplusing gear. Could use some advice on how to contact them. Any ideas will be appreciated. Please reply online as my Google email address is no longer valid. Vinton |

Or call some broadcast supply houses like Armstrong Transmitters or Mooretronix. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

Vinton Vinton, I suggest you place an ad in Broadcasting, and/or the other trade magazines, but please keep in mind that type-approved transmitters are intended for commercial use, and are priced accordingly. Unless you find a bankruptcy auction and you have enough cash to compete with other broadcasters, you will do better looking for older Ham gear. HTH. I hope to find a unit at a reasonable price. Some of the transmitters
I listed originally sold new for less than the cost of a decent piece of test equipment; so wouldn't expect used ones to be very expensive. Bear in mind I am looking at "low power" models, not the high-power behemoths. Don't know any hams who really want to output 50 kW, although I do suppose it would serve to keep winter snow off the roof. Radio stations have been known to simply scrap their old transmitters as they upgraded to later models. Not much demand for the large older units. The situation might be different for FM broadcast transmittters though. |

I have an Omnitronix 1000A that I have restored to operational condition. It is currently crystalled for 610 KHz. (non-synthesized) It was returned from an overseas site that had very poor AC power quality. All those issues have been corrected and it is now ready to be put back into service. Comes with all cables, a spare parts kit including one spare PA module. I'm located in Raleigh, NC. Drop me a post if it might be of interest. Thanks. NC Cycler |
