Default Administrivia: Crafting a Group Charter...

I'm finally getting around to drafting a charter for the newsgroup and
Digest. I occasionally get questions about what's appropriate to post here,
and I believe a charter would be quite useful.

So I'm trying to decide what should be on-topic; and I want to include
everything we talk about. I'm also looking for a one-line definition of
what the group is about (heh, that oughtta be fun.)

So far, my on-topic list is:

*Discussion of broadcast technology
*Discussion of the radio industry
*For-sale or for-auction posts selling broadcast equipment
*For-sale or for-auction posts selling radio memorabilia
*For-sale or for-auction posts selling radio stations

*Periodic announcements of Internet broadcasts. Could be one-liners or
more detailed posts like the ones we see from WCBN.

What should I add? And do y'all think we should include other stuff like
shortwave and ham discussions in the on-topic list, or should we stick to
the traditional AM and FM bands? (I do already post periodic newsletters
from Amateur Radio Newsline.)

Discussion welcome in e-mail, but preferred here in the newsgroup/mailing
list.

Love this newsgroup but don't see a need for the playlists we sometimes see
posted.
Otherwise, the on-topic list looks great.

I'd suggest looking over the (actual or de facto) charter
for the rec.antiques.radio+phono group, and making our charter
exclude antique consumer radio equipment.

Doesn't rrb already have a charter?

[ Moderator's Note: Bill Pfeiffer may have had one at some time, but I've
never seen it. To get the newsgroup accepted into rec.* which is part of
Usenet's Big 8 hierarchy, it would have had to have a charter - if anyone
can point me to one, I'd be happy to grab it. ]

Please let me know at if those (DX tests) are
nixed - I don't always have time to read this group, sorry!

Thanks!

Lynn.

I've been biting my lip for years about the posting of the WCBN
playlists and ARRL scripts.

Now seems like a good time to suggest that these posts stop appearing
on Airwaves. If the posters want to share the info, a URL to an
independent site would be the courteous and appropriate method to do
it.

WRT the rec.x issue, isn't Airwaves still parallel to
rec.radio.broadcast? I knew it at least used to be, when Bill was
still with us, but then I get the digest and haven't actually looked
at usenet in years.

Thanks to all who have kept Bill's efforts alive. Can't believe it's
been over four years since he's been gone.

I don't understand what the problem is. Can't you just choose
not to select those (clearly marked) articles for reading?

I just never read the WCBN playlist message.

I never even noticed the ARRL thing you're complaining about.
(I'll have to be on the lookout for it to see what it is, now.)

I don't object to solicitations for buying AM stations, either.
Although regular readers already know him, probably Meyer should
be putting ADV in his articles' subjects

Spam is really only a problem if it's overwhelming, or unmarked.
