Default Mid to late 1940's New York City Radio

I would like to find the name and any other info on the man who
delivered the news of the day on a New York City station each weekday
morning in a sing-song manner, starting, "I see by the paper ...."
This was in the mid to late 1940's.

If there is a better place to post this, please let me know. Thanks,
Paul

The personality was Phil Cook and was on WABC-880AM which is now WCBS.
