One use for RCI Sackville's transmitters : transmitting the VOA Persian and
VOA Arabic services to the Americas. It seems that (VOA) IBB transmitters are too busy transmitting (IBB's) Radio Marti to bother to transmit VOA Persian and VOA Arabic 24 hours a day to the Americas. Radio Marti is geopolitically (moot and pointless) on SW. Radio Marti was not set up to transmit on SW at the time of its creation. MW was (exclusively chosen) at the time for sound geopolitical reasons. It goes without saying: The Cubans have no desire to delete out of existence various US cities with high killing power weapons. In comparison to Islamic extremists -- Castro's Cuba is a loyal US ally -- in the way the UK is a US ally. Using existing 1500-1700 kHz (omni?) directional MW transmitters [in use by existing US stations] in the South and Southwest to transmit Radio Marti would be just as effective as the current SW + MW approach. Even if Cuba did decide to jam the MW transmissions, barrage broadcasting on MW would quickly defeat that. MW barrage broadcasting is infinitely adaptable, and the (IBB) BSEE's would have a very interesting workload. The current 100 kw MW Radio Marti transmitter could be switched off, as polar ice cap melting will inundate the coral atoll that the IBB uses to transmit Radio Marti on MW. The US, by operating this 100 kw MW transmitter is violating the US-CAN-MEX 50 kw [power limit] MW transmission interference treaty. My suggestions don't significantly ratchet up the level of oscillating antagonism that exists between the US and Cuba. In closing: TV Marti -- that government department should be reserved for the children and friends of the (Republican) Upper and Ruling Class Cubans in South Florida. Without TV Marti the US Republican Party would have no way to hand out political favours to the children of its Upper and Ruling class supporters in South Florida. TV Marti was never set up with being a real TV broadcaster in the 1st place, in the way that typical US broadcast and cable TV broadcasters are set up. CBC TV's "The Beachcombers" had more destructive political effects in the GDR (E Germany) than a substantial amount of the hard political broadcasting into E Europe at the time. You don't need hard political broadcasting to achieve a political effect -- a moral lesson forgotten during a lot of the cold war. |

Looks like soon, we'll need only FM transmitters for the Persian service.
