I agree with you on that. I just need a radio that will recive/
transmit 4-5 miles or so. Not one that will be heard 3 states away.

A Johnson Whiteface would make me happy. I'll bet there are very few
people that even know what those are.

Not exactly "compact and reliable", but I've got one that's been
