I got a galaxy dx 949 with a wilson 500 antenna. The swr is at 1.3-1.5.
When on ssb the warning light for swr glows brighter as you talk into the microphone. On regular am it don't do this. What is it that could cause this? I've got both the stock mike as well as a red devil power microphone but they both are doing the same. Any ideas? The built in meter on it is showing that in fact the swr dose increase as you talk on ssb. But the swr decreases on am when you speak. Is this normal or does it need fixed. |

Don't put too much confidence into any built in SWR meter or dummy light. The best thing to do is to attach a decent watt meter such as a bird or coaxial dynamics and take actual forward and reflective watt readings to calculate true SWR to ensure the accuracy of the built in meter. Nevertheless, if you are confident that the built in meter is fairly accurate, I would say that the circuitry driving the warning lamp is probably out of adjustment. There probably is an adjustment in the circuit to set the threshold when the light comes on. Should be easy to find on the schematic. Dloyd |

Yes that is what I was told by Gi Joes. They said it was ok to just
ignore it. Every one sais it sounds fine. I appreciate what you said, I think I may go ahead and put my stand alone swr meter on it just to see what it will show. Just to see if the two meters agree. |

It may mean that someone has turned up the internal mic control and that you
may be on the verge of FLAT TOPPING - distortation. "Timothy Midkiff" wrote in message ... Yes that is what I was told by Gi Joes. They said it was ok to just ignore it. DX 949 and DX 959 SWR ALERT SYMPTOM: SWR ALERT LED stays on when SWR is below 3:1 PROBLEM: Q1 on SWR PC board is too sensitive SOLUTION: Replace C5 with a 22K ohm 1/4 watt resistor This was copied from the / Galaxy website. Cheers from Australia. |
