Today there are not a lot of amature operators well schooled in tube theory. The biggest issue is matching filament votages and currents. Some transcievers and transmitters will put the final fillaments in series with other tubes. Drake dows this with their TR4 and T4X units. I had to strap a large wattage resistor over the filaments to balance current. I did a conversion on a Drake T4X to 6146Bs and the biggest issue I had was keeping the final stage nuetralized on 10M. I ended up regulating the screen voltage down to about 150VDC from the 250VDC the 6JB6s ran at. That helped a bunch. The drop in output was not a major concern. Still was able to get 80W on 10M. The HA10 really only needs about 50 W drive. Also modified the T4X so that I could bypass the finals and drive an NCL2000. Now that is a nice amp. james Yeah there you go James sounds like a plan. This old 30L1 seems to get along with most anything I've tried, 70-100w in..I use an arb-704 buffer when I run it with a transistor rig. -- http://NewsReader.Com/ |
