This is true. They don't even use 10 meters much.

10 meters is quite dependent on the status of the sunspot cycle. When the
solar flux is good, the band is indeed heavily used but when the flux is
down, it won't support long distance communications.

i cant count the many times ive been making world wide contacts on the 11 meter
freeband only to slide my reciever to ten meters to hear only dead air. what a
shame. three old guys working 10-10 dont really count as a used band.

Actually, being a ham myself, I find the 10-10 club very disgusting. All
they seem to want to do from my observations, is collect numbers! If you
don't have one, they won't talk. I was even told once by one of them, if you
don't have a 10-10 number, I don't have time to talk to you. WHAT THE HELL
KIND OF FUN IS THAT? That turned me OFF of even thinking about joining that
organization. When I get on the air, I like to chat a while and have had
many good ones in my days. Any ass hole can collect numbers, how about
carrying on a conversation? OR is that beneath their ability? I realize
there are several contests out there to try for even if only self
gratification, but when it condones ignorance, then they can stick the
contests up their ass. I NEVER turned down a chat with anyone who called out
my call sign. The only reason I'm not on the air now though is because I've
been waiting to move. Once I do that, then I'll be back in the saddle again.
I love chatting to all I am able to. Also, on 1 meters, I know many who've
made as many contacts as I have on 10 meters. I say - ENJOY! G.W.

I never got the point of it.
I already have a licence. A nice unique identifier.
The idea seems to be to sell the "exclucivity" to the suckers, to the
benifit of those collecting the dues.

Of course RACES and ARES are guilty of similar things, but in slightly
different ways.

RACES AND ARES are "supposed" to be for emergency ops - any designators
there are understandable, not sure about any dues/fees involved. "I" have
never heard of any fees involved, least not that I can recall. But I DO
agree with your assessment of the 10-10 club.. Either way, they aren't
getting my dough. I can talk to the many others who aren't members. So, when
they run out of suckers to apply for more numbers, and that is all they
choose to talk to, I guess they are screwed! No one else to talk to.. WOW,
what a boring conversation and life. At least with doing WAS and such, you
can usually enjoy a QSO along the way. Getting Hawaii for WAS - I spoke to
the guy for an hour. Enjoyed every minute of it. I'm still collecting cards
for contacts of places I've yet to talk to, but for an award? Who needs it?
Not me. My thrill is in making the contact and chat itself. The way it was
meant to be. G.W.

Yes, and Races won't talk to non-races stations, they are prohibited.
I guess it makes sense if you think that after the nuclear war, we hams are
going to be doing national security work...
They do charge fees, at least around here.

It's a pity that so many folks only seem to turn on the HF rig when there's
a contest on, then they don't want to chat, and I understand that, I
suppose..

I need to get some more iron in the air, before winter sets in!

BOY! How much you THINK you know! It gets used
a LOT! And some of it is in a "language" you are unlikely to
understand----you know, them pesky "dots and dashes" in addition to SSB, AM
and FM.
