This is news? I guess it may be to some, but it certainly isn't new
news. JerryO has been posting the information about truckstops getting
fined for the exact same thing over the past several years. In fact,
many outfits have been popped for selling illegal gear,,,,,what makes
this one stand out above the rest?

Well, not much. For some time FCC was (is) stymied by
glitches in the law that allowed such sales. The attorneys
for FCC (including RH, btw) have been working to fix this hole that the
dealers have been slipping thru. It doesn't however that these "busts"
won't continue or even
increase (I hope). They HAVE made *some* progress and (for example) Flying
J's I have gassed up at have removed the exports from the shelves. Now, the
ones I
have visited stock only the Cobra line.

As for modifying ham rigs to operate on CB, believe it or not, *most* hams
don't even care if you do that; I don't!
The issue is to remove the offending, illegal radios from use on 10 Meters.
Keep 'em on the 40 channels, and it
becomes a moot point AFAIK.

10 meters just had several openings. Welcome to the winter conditions.

Oh I'm sorry, I listen to 20 and 40. 10 just does not seem to be all that
active. Maybe my dial is broken?

Ummm, Jerry: Wouldn't that cause even MORE interference? Most amateur
xcvrs operate at 100 watts or more, rather than the 4w AM or 12w PEP
permitted under Part 95, and they xmit everywhere; including 10
meters, of course. And they certainly can be retrofitted with Roger
Beeps and echo boxes, et al, yes?

So you're saying that some radios should be banned outright, while
others are OK to modify? How will this keep "intruders" out of the 10m
band?

I submit that it would change nothing, and would not benefit you at
all in your crusade to keep the intruders out of the ham bands
(specifically 10 meters). In reality, it could make the perceived
problem worse!

Not a damn thing. 10m radios are still perfectly legal for amateur use
in the 10m band, and always will be. They have never been legal
for use on CB.

Yawn. Old news. BFD.

From what I read, these were the "dual" ham and CB radios, which never could
be type accepted.

They would never be legal on the CB band, nor type accepted for sale in the
ham bands either.
