I just bought a Emperor ts-5010 and performed some mods on my own that
I found on the web. All the info I find regarding this radio is about 2 to 3 years old. What I really want to known is anyone aware of this mod and should I do it? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tweak and Peak Emperor ts-5010 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1-) Audio limiter - R247 2-) AM Power - VR 111 3-) SSB Power - VR 103 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have performed item 2 and 3 and opened them up all the way, but for some reason I'm kind of resitant to perform number one. (cut audio limiter - r247, since I dont know what the Audio Limiter does) Before I performed the step 2 and 3 the radio output was 10W AM and 20W SSB now it puts out 55W AM and 60W SSB. But everybody I talk with in the radio says that my audio is low or there is something wrong with my modulation. Here is what I think: After performed the step 2 and 3 the radio got unbalanced (high watts and wrong modulation) and if I perform step 1 the radio will get stable modulation should make it better. (I could be wrong I"m just a 25 year old guy learning about radios) PS: I have the best coax and I'm running a wilson sw2000 any suggestions/comments on the radio are appreciated. |

Try lowering the power on both AM and SSB power to get decent headroom on both. What you have done is drive the output transistors to their maximum limits. Not a good thing. |
