Hello all. I have no experience with cb radio, but would like some
input on whether or not I have a suitable application for it. We live in a rural area. My house is about 2500 feet from my shop/work area and has line of sight. My wife would like to be able to communicate with me. I think that cb radio might work for me, but how would I get it to page or ring me if I am not right next to the radio. Any thoughts on this? Any other possible solutions. Thanks, J |

Jon,
For 2500 feet, you might find FRS a viable solution. The problem is to have it "ring". Hopefully some folks will know of some radios that will do this for you. One other possibility is one of those multiple telephones. I'm not sure what the maximum range is on those. I purchased one and it is great, but I haven't checked on its' maximum range. Seems it is 1/4 mile, which would be short. Another possibility is MURS. You won't be dealing with skip and you can get a decent range (perhaps 12 miles or so between a base and a mobile). They are considerably more expensive than FRS (figure $100 or so per unit as opposed to $25.00 for two FRS units). You can go to the following: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MURS-OPEN/ They would be a good group to answer your questions. You will have to join as it is members only, but they do deal with questions such as you have posed here and can offer several alternatives. 73 from Rochester, NY Jim "Jon" wrote in message om... Thank you for the information. It sure seems nice (and refreshingly
different) when honest questions get answered with honest answers ![]() 73 from Rochester, NY Jim "MnMikew" wrote in message ... Most FRS and GMRS radios have a call/page function on them. Thanks, J GMRS or FRS would work better for you, less noise. He might also consider MURS. Landshark -- Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to call out our courage and strength. |
