Yeah. I already figured what his "point" was :-) I just didn't like the
implication of the 100mph analogy and it's possible cause to bodily harm
being used as a comparison to operating a 4watt repeater!! I thought his
first post of "because it's
illegal" was enough.

Anyway, I've been good:-) Still trying to find you guys on 37-38
lsb/usb(Twist and you). Conditions have just been terrible lately.

Well then you made no point. I think everyone here is mature enough to
already know it's illegal. I don't recall reading anything in the thread
that said/argued otherwise.

Typically, things are illegal for a reason. I'm still listening to why a
repeater should be illegal on a CB freq....and a car going 100 mph ain't
gonna cut it :-)

Don

Hi M-Tech! How are ya?

Let me see if I can help you with that Don. You see, some hams take
offense
when a common "CB'er" does something that might take some intelligence to
do. Most hams don't care that running an 11 meter repeater is illegal.
They
care more that a CB'er might enjoy some of the capabilities that should be
reserved for a privileged few. The ego of the more common amateur radio
operator can seriously compete with some of the "channel masters" of the
11
meter band. Many of them break their own arms trying to pat themselves on
the back for being such a smart tech or because they bought such great
equipment. Let a CB'er build his own amp or transmitter and they're ready
to
pounce. "Can't let the trailer trash get too smart, nooooo. They might
actually accomplish something. Wouldn't want that to happen."

Anyway, I hope this helps you to understand even a little bit about his
point (aside from "IT'S ILLEGAL!", that is).

This comes from www.copper.com "forums". Apparently, there is a

"repeater"
for the chicken band on the air. The link at the very top has pictures,
circuitry and everything! Is this not against the law? .

Jerry

Oh geeze...I just now took a min. to look at this project. I should have
kept quiet. That's no repeater. Store and rebroadcast? I guess it still
qualifies as a repeater since it literally repeats everything, but it sucks.
Who would want that peace of junk? I thought you were talking about relaying
in real time like a normal repeater. In this case, I wouldn't even bother
with such a device.

Frankly Dr. X, I don't give a damned!!!!! If you get busted, that is YOUR
problem, not mine. I could care less. Was just pointing out, a CB Repeater
is illegal anyway you try to spin it. Protest to the FCC who made it that
way. Ask them for THEIR reasons. "I" do not make their rules. But I will
say, I've known many who said they'd never get busted. Never say never. It
happens in due time. One guy (A CBer) was very defiant and got busted as
many times as he ignored their rules. Paid upwards of $50,000 in fines and
lost all equipment each time. So, if you have money to gamble, be my guest.
How does the saying go.... "A fool and his money are soon parted"?

Word! No one I know has ever received an NAL notice either. This
chump is ****ing in the wind.

Like I said, some hams just don't like it when an 11 meter op doesn't fit in
the "common CB'er" mold.

On the contrary, I've known a couple of people that got them.
One was using a Moonraker 6 with 2500 watts, turning on touch
lights 2 blocks away. The other was running 5000 watts 2 blocks
from the PBS TV station in San Francisco, both not to smart.
Keep it low keyed and clean and usually nothing will ever happen.

My guess would be the same reason as the distance rule. That distance rule
is not exactly enforceable as it is, without allowing repeaters to extend
distance.

I believe that Australia allow repeaters on CB, and I have not yet heard of
anyone being run over by one going at 100MPH.

Peter.

Isn't the aussie CB band UHF?
That makes a big difference.

An HF repeater can cause interference pretty much worldwide.
UHF would only cover a few 10's of miles.
We have the same issues with 6 meter and 10 meter repeaters, though they are
legal for hams.
