You do know that filters work best when the target doesn't know what's
filtered, right?

Unless it's a fixed, dedicated IP, that don't mean jack ****.
What if my cable company reassigns my IP?
Maybe I'm on dial up. In which case, the IP changes with each connection.
If you used 172.*.*.* then you'd block anyone from the entire IP range.
So bye bye aol users.
The IP block is meant to be used as a filter for domains, or robots.

Hello, Richard

Yep, you are right. What a surprise I received one day when my ISP changed
my DSL IP address! LOL. Normally, cable and DSL accounts are fixed - but
not forever.

As to dial-up accounts, you are also correct in that they change *every*
time you connect. Apparently some of the spammers love AOL as AOL isn't
particularly responsive to complaints and it is hard to trace back a
message - but who wants to pay that kind of money per month for America Off
Line?

As to me, I am probably headed back to DSL as they offered me two years of
all phone features (free unlimited long distance within the U.S., caller id,
call waiting, call forwarding, call blocking, 3 way calling and a big list
of other features) as well as 3000k DSL for $64.95 per month. Hmmmmmm ....
kinda like that 'fixed' IP for that price and speed

Best regards from Rochester, NY
Jim
