I have a President Washington CB. The am, lsb, usb knob or button is
hard to turn. Their nothing wrong with the knob. Maybe only the design. It too round and I can not get a good grip on it. Often I use a cloth to grip it to turn. Now, I am thinking about taking off the knob and replacing it with a chicken head or what ever more narrow knob I would find. I would like to know if I could simply use a small flat driver and pry off the knob? I hope that I do not have to open up the radio. SR |

I can not pry off the knob, it's too in the radio. I am now trying to
see it I could make some kind of a small clamp that can work as a lever. This would give me leverage to turn to the knob for ssb operations. Any ideas? SR DesignGuy wrote: "SR" wrote in message ... I remember I once had this same problem with the Cobra 148 GTL. I think
the reason why they made all of the knobs this way was because they were probably competing with am/fm stereos radio during the disco era, that had fine looking knobs. Perhaps these may had been the first radios, when expensive shinny looking machine made knobs became the new style. When you look back to the Hammarlund, Grundig and Hallicrafters you see a big difference in the style of knobs. Vanity vs performance! I wonder if this was a break off from the Puritanical style, as you would notice in furniture. Although having a lighted red needle is very cool too! SR DesignGuy wrote: "SR" wrote in message ... Oh, yeah, you gotta miss the '70's. Turnin' those shiny silver knobs
and listenin' to Electric Light Orchestra and what not. Heck, as I recall, TV's Good Times found itself infected with the '70's CB craze... when Michael started chatting with some paraplegic gal on Bookman's CB radio. |

SR If it doesn't pry off easily, you might want to try roughing up the smooth knob with some large-grit sandpaper to give you a better grip, |

(ooh err matron ;o) If your not bothered about the original knob pull it off with a pair of pliers..... |

SR If you want the knob off and don't care if it is damaged the safest way to remove it without damaging the shaft is to: Drill and tap the end of the knob and push the knob off with an added bolt. |
