Default Hey Jay

Have you ever messed around with the maco comet beam? A friend of mine is
considering putting one up in the spring so I wondered if you had any input
on its design, durability and performance? Can he turn it with a small
rotor if he uses a thrust bearing?

Hello Stevo:

Ok I looked around, and here is the web site for the Maco Comet Antenna.

http://www.majestic-comm.com/assembly/index.htm

No sorry I don't know to much about them. They are a 3 element cross
bean with a quad reflector. But they are light weight, and you could use
a light weight rotor.

But using a over rated rotor is the way to go. I suggest using a Hy-Gain
Ham IV Rotor, mounted inside the tower and a thrust bearing used at the
top of the tower. This will allow the full square foot rating of the
rotor to be used. If the rotor is mounted on the mast, you have to cut
the square foot handling rating in half.

And with a over rated rotor, this will allow you to upgrade to a larger
beam antenna it ya feel the need for speed on the Maul!

Hy-Gain Ham IV Rotor is at:
http://www.hy-gain.com/products.php?prodid=HAM-IV

Its always better and cheaper in the long run to have the good stuff.

Thanks Jay.

It's for a friend of mine and he already has some sort of rotor he wants to
try instead of buying another one. I'll pass this info on to him. He has
limited space so that antennas small size caught his attention.

You should start making a new and improved PDLII clone! :-)

I still hear guys looking for one of those, I had one years ago at my old
house and liked it pretty well too.

Hello Stevo:

YES! I have a 2 element Quad Antenna in the works.

I have been getting a lot of requests for a short boom light weight beam
antenna. But they want to run big power thru them, so that makes the
matching system that harder to make.

Still working the matching system, trying be able to get it to a 1 to 1
SWR, with a easy adjustement.

It will uses all the bullet proof hardware and such, and take 10KW.

Sounds good, Jay. Let me know when you have one available for sale.

Need a beta tester? :-)
