Default What's missing?

Over the years, here in the UK, we have lost most CB shops. Very few are left and it seems that
products are disappearing, as one of our main dealer no longer lists some of the items that
were listed a couple of years back.

I noticed that certain CB books are no longer listed here, although they are still in print.
Certain other products are still available, but are simply not listed in the shop catalogues.
Maybe the companies are selling directly and cheaply on the Net, giving the dealers no chance
of competing.
But I have heard one person moaning, saying that he would rather get an illegal copy of a book
than order the real thing from America.

Is there the same problem in America, products disappearing?
What CB products do you wish were still available or were missed by companies but could have
sold? What do you really wish you could find in the shops?

Regards,
Peter.

Those things you used to get that converted a mobile into a base station.
You bolted the radio in the box and the box had a power supply and a speaker
in it.
Useful for all types of radio.
I used one for my FT290.

Hi Peter, i personally don't blame him having been ripped off numerous times
by US sellers myself. I bought the book deal from Lou a while back, all
items arrived quickly and in good shape and the correct shipping costs were
asked for so I reckon i got a good deal and would recommend Lou to anyone.
You just have to weed out the assholes who like to take money from innocent
buyers. Incidentally, i was going to open a shop myself but with local
council red tape and rising costs, it looks like i'll be using the net
instead. I won't be giving up my day job though and this will help to keep
costs low. I won't be selling any books though as they just gather dust and
this is personal experience!. Look at the number of Uniden & Cybernet
manuals for sale on Ebay, they aren't selling fast, just constantly being
listed and Knight's are giving away a freebie book when you ask for it due
to space required! all in all books just don't sell due to the vast number
of PDF files available on the net to download. Anyway, nuff rambling, tea's
ready
Cheers
Xav.

Citizen's Band radio for all practical purposes is dead in the US. There's
several states or areas where it's still fairly active but in the day of
computing and cell phones radio hobbyists are fewer and far between. There
isn't a CB shop within fifty miles of me the closest being a truckstop.
Manufacturers are limited to one or two major players. Amateur radio has
seen the same decline. It's been almost ten years since I had a base
operation reminiscent of the days when I ran Browning Mark III's and four
element vertical beams. I have most of my equipment packed away in their
original boxes including vintage gear including a Viking Valliant and Yesau
101ZD. I've been tempted many times to put them on eBay knowing I'll never
get they're worth. One of these days I may break everything out and put a
vertical or sloped dipole on the house if the wife allows.

Hi.

I still prefer a printed book for anything more than a page or two. Computer
screens are not really the most comfortable way to read a book, and I don't
find PDFs the best way to view information.
The problem is that, to make it worth the time writing a book, there has to be
the profit there. We all need to live, and those who expect to given everything
free would not work for nothing... they would expect at least the minimum
wage. Free information is fine, but it does not pay the bills while you put in
hours upon hours making that information available.

If you do set up selling CB or related equipment, please let me know so
I can add you to the dealer database... free advertising.
You can Email me via the form on the Web site.

Regards,
Peter.

It's been some years since I saw one of those, even longer since I saw them being sold.

Full size quarter wave whips (stainless steel, not two part fibreglass).
I have not seen those for a while.
I used to use them for commercial applications as they were a fraction of
the price of the commercial equivalent
and less likely to break if hit by a tree.
Two piece ones are useless.

I used to have one of those back in the early 90's on a very strong mount
fitted to the rear of my old Fiat Panda. People said it looked like a dodgem
car but it got out well ;o)

Radio Shack still sells them. There are probably a dozen online stores that
sell them also. I get mine from the CB shop at the truckstop.
